Has your life become a pain in the Back?

Back pain is a gift of the modern lifestyle. Long drives, long working hours, late night working, etc. Other day – to – day causes of backaches are improper postures, bending, twisting, getting up suddenly, no exercise, etc.

Why do I have a backache?

i. The common causes for backaches include disorders like spondylosis (a chronic degenerative disease of the intervertebral discs), disc prolapse and congenital abnormalities.

ii. There are, however, at least 20 varieties of diseases which can manifest as backaches.

iii. Apart from these, other factors like injury, trauma, overwork, emotional and mental stress, menstrual tension and prostate conditions can lead to backaches.

iv. Problems with posture or weight can also cause backaches.
 

Backaches can be avoided by following simple precautions

DO’s                            

  1. Always sit with proper back support while traveling / in office / home.
  2. Sit on a chair which has :

    - Back support of 100 – 110 degrees.
    - Rotating system.
    - Hand support.
    - Foot rest on ground.

    Height adjustable system to table (adjust height to spine according to the height of desk).

  3. Lift up any fallen object by bending at knees.
  4. Hold object as close to the body as possible.
  5. Keep changing your posture every hour.
  6. Objects to be placed at reachable distances to avoid stretching.
  7. Always get up sideways from bed.
  8. Lie down on a firm mattress – placing pillow below knees / pillow between knees lying sideways.
  9. CONTROLLED SUPERVISED EXERCISE FOR THE BACK REGULARY

 

DONT’s                           

  1. No direct forward bending. Always bend at knees.
  2. No heavy weight lifting. Use both hands to lift up any object.
  3. Never pull. Always push.
  4. No crouching (relaxed position). Always sit upright.
  5. Avoid prolonged SUSTAINED posture (Sitting / Standing).
  6. Avoid sudden TURNING / TWISTING.
  7. Avoid sudden jerky, twisty movements of spine.
  8. Avoid lifting of legs together while lying down.

 

Homeopathic solutions

Homeopathy can offer a safe and effective pain relief for many kinds of backaches. Here are some examples:

  1. For general back ache, take Oxalic Acid 6. Don't sit or sleep in one position for too long. Try shifting positions regularly as it helps relieve the pain.
  2. When your back feels as it it is broken, take Rhos Tox 200. Walking will help ease the pain, even though the pain is severe when you get up from your bed/ chair.
